Hvar1612

This proposal was created as a part of contest in designing visual identity of the Hvar1612.  

As a public institution in culture, HVAR 1612 operates in a wide range of activities, and its concept is based on the rich and layered cultural-historical heritage of the city of Hvar. Referring to the idea of progressive public theater from the early 17th century, the aim is to present this institution as a bearer of good cultural practice, an institution that nurtures its heritage through its approach and work and is focused on the future of cultural activities in the city of Hvar. Visually, the continuity of life and creativity on the island is transformed into a layered contemporary interpretation of all significant visual elements of the city.

The institution's logo is derived from a combination of a contemporary reinterpretation of Roman capitals present on numerous cultural monuments in the city and a strictly contemporary sans-serif font. By combining lowercase letters, curvatures, and lowercase numbers, an appropriate dose of seriousness, openness, and modernity is achieved as the main element of the visual identity. The color system, in addition to neutral black and white, finds its source in the interior of the Hvar Historical Theater (red) and in the sun (orange), as a pleasant environment for cultural creativity throughout its long history, as well as in the stone (gray).
